GTA TeleGuam Launches 2012 Phone Book Recycling Cycle
Guam – GTA TeleGuam today announced the launch of the 2012 GTA Phonebook Round Up recycling program in partnership with iRecycle, Soil and Water Conservation Northern District, Department of Agriculture and Chamorro Land Trust.
The contest is open to all public, private or federal schools in Guam and students will have a chance to win cash prizes totaling $ 10,000 when they collect obsolete phone books through March 31, 2012. Obsolete phone books are shredded, turned into recycled materials directories and given to local farmers for use as filler and mulch material.
Cora Yanger-Bejado, General Manager of Marketing and Communications at GTA, said: “The GTA Phonebook Round Up program has been a success every year as it promotes a greener Guam by keeping phone books out of the landfill and also gives Guam students for the chance to win cash prizes that can be used for needs within schools.
Over the past three years, schools in Guam have collected thousands of phone books and received cash donations as a reward based on the number of books collected per school. Past Phonebook Round Up grand prize winners include George Washington High School, Astumbo College, and Upi Elementary School.
iRecycle and other program partners were instrumental in collecting phone books through collecting books from each of the participating schools as well as coordinating the shredding and distribution of recycled materials.
