How to play Super Mario Run on iPhone
The gameplay of Super Mario Run is similar to the Mario games offered by Nintendo in the past.
In Super Mario Run, you roam a virtual world, dodging enemies and collecting coins, just like in previous Mario games. But to make the game more user-friendly for users trying to hold a phone and play with one hand, Nintendo has tweaked the game and added some new features.
The most notable change Nintendo has made is that Mario runs automatically. You just need to touch the screen to make it jump. For mobile phones, Super Mario Run is designed with a vertical screen orientation rather than a horizontal one.
“We thought that by having this simple touch interaction to blast Mario up, we would be able to create a game that the widest audience could play,” Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto said as quoted by The Verge.
Super Mario Run has three modes. The most familiar mode is known as World Tour in which you collect coins and head towards a goal. The second mode is Toad Rally in which you compete against the performance of other people who have played, with the aim of both collecting the most coins and doing it in the most style. In a third mode, Kingdom Builder, you can create your own mushroom kingdom out of over 100 different buildings and items. Coins collected in any mode can be used to acquire the various items.
Nintendo said that “there will be periodic events based on the main modes which will provide players with challenges and rewards.” Besides star Mario, users will unlock other familiar characters in the game, including Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi.
Although Super Mario Run is currently reserved for the iPhone, Nintendo plans to bring the game to Android in 2017. In addition, the Japanese video game maker plans to offer two more games for mobile, titles from its franchises. Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem, before the end of March 2017.
Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox at Microsoft, said in an interview that he would like to see Super Mario on Xbox. Spencer said Microsoft is keen to team up with Nintendo in order to bring Super Mario to Xbox One.
